This project was conducted to understand and document land records modernisation initiatives in Uttar Pradesh and to analyse the land records modernisation initiatives undertaken by the Government of Uttar Pradesh via the Digital Land project, especially the system of allocating unique numbers to every plot of land, and further interlinkages. Subsequently, IIHS was named as a special invitee to the High-Power Committee on Urban Records constituted by the Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Department to implement a system of urban property ownership records, especially for vertical properties. The IIHS Centre for Land Governance carried out a secondary study and held meetings with concerned government officials in Lucknow and Noida to document the initiatives around land records modernisation, urban land record management, and computerisation of registration.
