This research collaboration illuminated how the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy can be leveraged to address the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG7 (transition to renewables) and, while doing so, deliver on SDG 5 and SDG 10 (reducing inequalities) and SDG 16 (inclusive and just institutions). This four-year project investigated how investments in the energy transition can improve social equity and enable a just change and illuminated key principles that can help achieve this. This project worked closely with institutional actors, including development finance institutions, to understand their expanded role in aligning energy transitions with social equity goals.
