IIHS conducted a comprehensive study on land records modernisation and e-governance initiatives in Maharashtra, covering rural, peri-urban, and urban areas. The project aimed to achieve: (i) Secondary research on legal and institutional frameworks, and analysis of related policies; (ii) Field visits and interviews with key stakeholders, including Settlement Commissioner, Director of Land Records, Inspector General of Registration, and National Informatics Centre; (iii) Site study of select cities for understanding property registration systems, especially online registration; (iv) Diagnostic assessment, identifying gaps and good practices in the computerisation of the registration process and property records in apartments, including cooperative housing societies.
