The project concentrated on urban resettlement in response to climate risks, studying the societal and economic impacts of such policies. Led by IIHS in India, with support from UCL and FLACSO, it aimed to: (i) Identify factors contributing to urban climate risks, analyzing legal frameworks for relocating affected communities in select cities. (ii) Categorise approaches, including relocation, assessing their fairness for individuals, communities, and society in reducing climate risk. (iii) Characterise decision-making behind urban resettlement strategies. (iv) Compare global solutions, analyzing costs, benefits, and lessons, emphasizing policies for maximizing positive outcomes while reducing future economic and social costs. The research sought to systematize diverse solutions globally and determine the most effective policies for minimizing societal impact amidst climate-related challenges.
