Part of ILO's Work in Freedom programme, this project used a 10,000 household survey in Bengaluru and Chennai to examine the dynamics of paid and unpaid domestic work across different urban households. The study shifted the focus from workers to employers, seeking to understand their perspectives on the quality of domestic work, wages, labour rights and social protection. Three reports present findings on what it takes to reproduce a household, the deficits in decent work, and insights into employer attitudes, practices and perceptions about domestic work.
