The Prediction, Emergence, Adoption and Knowledge (PEAK) Urban project aimed to inform urban decision-making by conducting research grounded in urban complexity, empowering urban populations to plan for clean energy futures, and nurturing a new generation of urban leaders. This research stream examined how public and private focus on financialising urban land to leverage capital is restructuring cities such as Bengaluru. Case studies of Bengaluru International airport, Namma Metro and the BBMP, where land value capture is being used to generate revenues were examined. Links between urban land and equity-/debt-led financing in the Indian real estate sector, particularly housing, were explored along with the implications of variabilities in local and global financial circuits on developer-led construction patterns in Indian cities.
