The project concentrated on urban resettlement in response to climate risks, studying the societal and economic impacts of such policies. Led by IIHS in India, with support from University College London (UCL) and Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), it: (1) Identified factors contributing to urban climate risks, analysing legal frameworks for relocating affected communities in select cities; (2) Categorised approaches, including relocation, assessing their fairness for individuals, communities, and society in reducing climate risk; (3) Characterised decision-making behind urban resettlement strategies; and (4) Compared global solutions, analysing costs, benefits, and lessons, emphasising policies for maximising positive outcomes while reducing future economic and social costs. The research sought to systematise diverse solutions globally and determine the most effective policies for minimising societal impact amidst climate-related challenges.
