The IIHS Design Lab developed design and services infrastructure guidelines for primary healthcare facilities in 2015–16 for the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, through the Karnataka Health Systems Development and Reform Project (KHSDRP). The guidelines document included sustainable site planning, regionally responsive climate strategies, and a comprehensive set of recommendations for sustainable services such as water supply, sanitation, and energy. It also provided type designs, room details, and visual language components for Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife (ANM) Sub-centres, Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and Community Health Centres (CHCs) to be developed across Karnataka.
