Abhinav M

Abhinav M is an urban planner, and his prime research areas are urban governance and institutions. At IIHS, he works with the Urban Practitioners’ Programme to develop the capacities of both urban practitioners and institutions in the urban sector and addresses diverse themes such as urban planning, water and sanitation, housing, and transportation.

Over the years, Abhinav has been actively engaged with the government sector in developing capacities of urban officials from over 10 state governments across the country. He has collaborated with key central government bodies including Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, and National Institute for Urban Affairs for the curation of Capacity Development programmes. At the city level, he has worked on developing a capacity building framework as well as institutional arrangements for the implementation of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) and Multi Modal Integration (MMI) in Bengaluru. Furthermore, he has contributed to studies on policy evaluation as well as public procurement.

His research portfolio ranges from rainwater harvesting, nature-based solutions to institutional design and public private partnerships. He has also provided expert opinions on state capacity and urban planning published in Deccan Herald and Forbes India among others.
