School of Governance

Transforming governance in India’s cities, towns and villages

About

The School of Governance (SoG) at IIHS engages with the principles, approaches, and instruments by which Indian settlements are governed.

It does so in order to transform the mandates, structures, processes, and working of institutions at multiple scales, and their relationship with the market and other non-state institutions and citizens.

The SoG has a systemic orientation, interdisciplinary reach, and spatial focus, and leads new and cutting-edge work on urban governance. Drawing on and bringing together disciplines such as law, political science, and policy, the SoG speaks to issues of urban governance that are central to domestic and international urban policy.

Where economies evolve, cities transform, and communities shape resilient futures.
