OverView

Shalini Bose is an urban geographer–planner who explores local governance in cities, community participation, and urban livelihoods, through qualitative research. As an External Consultant at the IIHS Urban Informatics Lab, she is currently engaged in a project that looks into the geographical distribution of economic activity in a metropolitan region. In particular, she is analysing the policy ecosystem of the area as well as master planning tools to understand city planning outcomes and infrastructure gaps. Previously, Shalini has designed a survey to understand how city administrators evaluate and address urban challenges associated with ULBs functioning in Indian cities, with a focus on infrastructure, housing, local economic development, and climate resilience.

She has an MPhil in Urban Planning from CEPT University (Ahmedabad) and an MA in Geography with a specialisation in Urban Planning and Regional Development from the Centre for the Study of Regional Development, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (Delhi). She also cleared the UGC-NET for eligibility for assistant professorship in 2019. Shalini is also enthusiastic about urban mobility and public policy.
