overview

IIHS, with CSR support from Godrej Properties, is implementing an innovative city–farmer partnership for solid waste management in Karnataka. The project supports the Chikkaballapura and Doddaballapura municipal authorities in ensuring a steady supply of segregated wet waste from the city to local farmers trained in composting, enabling sizeable reductions in waste volume and waste processing costs for the municipality and reduced costs of chemical fertilisers for farmers. The projects will manage several thousand tonnes of municipal solid waste. Information, education, communication (IEC) and behaviour change communication campaigns aimed at promoting primary waste segregation are a critical part of the project.
