During 2014–2015, a team of researchers at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements conducted a series of primary and secondary studies on land record modernisation initiatives across five states of India: Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Karnataka. Based on extensive on-ground research, this work is part of a five-volume set that presents a review of land records management processes, the status of current efforts to modernise land records, and relevant legislative changes. Each volume is situated in the larger historical background of land and revenue relations in the respective states.

India higher education atlas (Volume 1)
The first edition of the India Higher Education Atlas visualises, for the first time, the locations of the bulk of the universities and colleges in the country. The atlas brings together the 2018–19 Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) directory of higher education institutions database, with IIHS’ 0.6 million urban and rural settlement geocoded data base, and various Census variables for visualising population densities and settlement sizes, literacy rates and the locations of various types of higher education institutions. When placed in the context of age and gender-specific educational attainment across rural and urban areas at both state and district levels, it provides a snapshot of the challenges that India will have to address in order to strengthen its higher education.
The volume 1 consists of state and India level visualisations.

The India Higher Education Atlas brings together 2018–19 Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) Directory of Higher Education Institutions database along with Internet-based triangulation of institutional data; with IIHS’s 0.6 million urban and rural settlement geocoded data base, and various Census of India (2001 and 2011) variables.

India urban atlas: Mapping the growth and expansion of India’s 100 largest cities
The India Urban Atlas 2017 tracks urban expansion of India’s 100 largest cities. The Atlas presents land cover change maps from around the two Census periods (2001 and 2011) and 2017, and a built-up area change map for urban areas over this period. Land cover change of built-up areas, vegetation and water bodies are analysed over this period to enable a better understanding of the relationship between urban growth, land cover and regional environmental change, which can be viewed in the context of urban population growth trends since 1951.
